Scouting Wintercamp at Gillwell park

Date: 2nd Feb 2017 Author: Scout Websites

For our 7th year we took 26 Scouts along to the UK Scouting Wintercamp held at Gillwell park activity centre.

We joined 2000 Scouts from across the whole of the South of England for loads of activities in and off site. This year we found the weather to be very mild, although grey and sometimes wet, it did not quiet feel like a winter camp. Our Scouts still had an absolute blast. We took three brand new Scouts, fresh out of Cubs, which was a bit daunting, mainly for their parents, but they were absolutely fantastic and bonded excellently with the team.

For those that have never been to Wintercamp, the 8th would highly recommend it, the Scouts love it and there are so many groups on site it is a great place to meet new groups and chew the fat about Scouting and get some fresh ideas.

Our Scouts took part in Tank driving, 4X4 driving, jumped into airbags, quad biking, clay shooting, rode segways, climbing, tomahawk throwing and then hundreds of rides on the dogems, waltzers and the “Turbo” wall of death in the onsite fairground. Each evening there is a disco for the Scouts to enjoy till midnight when everything closes.

It will always be our “Fun” camp to kickstart the new year and get everyone ready for a full year of Scouting as well as testing our ability to camp in cold conditions.
