We are the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6 to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.

Please note that 8th Tonbridge is a popular Scout Group and places are extremely limited. We endeavour to provide as many local young people as possible with the opportunity to enjoy Scouting, but sometimes are unable to accommodate everyone. We would encourage parents to consider volunteering their time to facilitate this and will of course prioritise any child with a parent who is willing to help on a regular basis.

Adult Volunteering

‘Scouting is a character factory.’ Not our words, but those of our lead volunteer, chief scout Bear Grylls.

The 8th Tonbridge Scout Group has plenty of opportunities for adults to join the adventure of scouting too! It’s easy to volunteer.

We are looking for parents and adults to assist with the running of the sections in various different ways.

Its not all about the uniform! Are you good with numbers? Handy in the kitchen? Or are you a DIY whizz? We all have useful skills and you can volunteer and help in many ways, from assisting with the charity accounts to maintaining our scout hut.

Volunteering with us is easy, fun and flexible – how much time you give is completely up to you. Whether you help out once a fortnight, month or term or just at special events or camps, there is bound to be a role you can play, and no matter how you get involved, we’ll make sure you’re properly trained and supported.

As well as gaining externally recognised skills and having a brilliant time, Scouting also offers the chance to build on personal skills, like teamwork, confidence and leadership. A study found that over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives. If you are interested in volunteering please contact our Group Scout Leader, Colin Cope, via email on colin.cope@tonbridge-scouts.org.uk.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
