Party in Our Park – The Group Scout Leader’s report & Thanks

Posted on 25 June 2017

It would be difficult for me to express how proud I am to lead such an amazing Scout Group in Hildenborough, the sight of a whole community engaging with each other, young and old enjoying the live music on the Rec last night was truly uplifting.

The “Party in our Park” was born from a desire of the Scouts themselves to provide a community event for the village when the Firework Display was no longer a viable option. This is only our second year and we are still trying to feel our way around providing such an event. However last night showed us that there is a great community spirit in Hildenborough and we as a Scout Group are happy to be an important part of our community.

We provided this Music Festival completely free of charge, we are not a company, no one gets paid in the village Scout group, all the adults have day jobs, families and they are volunteers.

So how do we do it??

That’s a question I often ask myself and my team, the adult leadership team in Hildenborough are an amazing, talented and resourceful group of volunteers and without them nothing would get done. As a registered charity, any money we raise goes straight back into developing the youth of the village, by activities or for equipment.

The event on Sat 24th June 2017, raised money for the Scout group through people buying, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Drinks at the bar, Cake, Sweets & the Bouncy Castle. This allows us to continue for another year. So we say a massive thank you to all of the community that came along and bought food and drink from us during the afternoon, you really did make a difference.

There are many people that I need to thank, other than our truly outstanding leadership teams and I just want to again show our thanks by listing them here:

Fidelity International for Sponsoring the main stage, Will Fox of Fox Events & Hire for sorting us out yet again an amazing stage, sound & lights, all the bands, singers & musicians for performing for FREE, special thanks to the Expandables for not only closing the festival but for also liaising and scheduling all the bands, the Parish Council for allowing us to use the Rec & Pavilion, our other corporate sponsors Alba Transport, Templa, West Kent Estates, Café1809 for helping us out with a fridge van at short notice, All the Beavers, Cubs, Scout, Explorers parents that helped in so many different ways, from organising alcohol sales licences, baking cakes, donating freezers, ordering portable toilets, staffing the stalls to providing lunch for the set up team on the day. I could carry on for a long time thanking people for all the support we received.

My last two thanks are the most important, a HUGE thank you to our Boys & Girls who make up the Beaver, Cubs, Scout & Explorer sections, they are a great bunch of children and young adults, they are the reason we do all this and they put in as much effort as the Leadership Team. You are AWESOME.

Lastly I thank the villagers of Hildenborough who turn out to support us, if you didn’t attend our events, we would not be able to continue Scouting in Hildenborough.

This was only meant to be a short thank you note!!

We all hope you enjoyed yourself at “Party in our Park” and we will see you in June 2018 for an even bigger and better event.

If you see us about in the village, please feel free to give us some feedback or contact us via the contacts on this website.

Many Thanks

Paul
