End of Term Reports – July 2017

Posted on 22 July 2017

Another action packed term from all our sections….

Its been a great summer term at the 8th Tonbridge Scouts with all sections now finished for the summer.

As GSL I had the pleasure of handing out some awards on Friday to the Scout section that held a family BBQ & Rounders Match to end their term. Surprisingly the parents versus Scouts rounders game ended in a draw, very diplomatic! Well done to the team for laying on such a great BBQ and refreshments.

I handed out an exclusive Scout Hoodie to a top Scout by the name of Josh, he has been a real star of the Scout section. I true inspiration to both his peers and the leadership team. I am told by his parents that he lives and breaths Scouts and he certainly puts in the hours at all events. He also received his much sought after Gold Scout Award last night ahead of many of his peers. A massive well done young man.

They also said farewell to 4 of the older Scouts who we hope will all be moving up to Explorers and assisting with the leadership teams in September

Of special note moving up is a Scout who was the groups first girl to move through all sections, she was the only girl in both Beavers
& Cubs, but was joined by other girls when she reached the Scout Section. She led the way to show that girls can be 1st class Scouts. So a special well done to Sarah, who continues into Explorers and as a Young Leader for the Cub section.

The Cubs finished of their term with what looked like a great night up at Biggin Hill Airport with the dedicated airport Fire team. The Cubs have also had an awesome term with a record number of Silver awards along with a superb SPY Camp at Down. The Leadership Team are a really dynamic bunch who are really developing this section into one of the finest Cub Troops in the Tonbridge district. Well Done Akela and her team.

The Beavers finished their term again with a BBQ, again a really productive term and their flower beds in the hut grounds are a real credit to the amount of effort put into Beavers by the leadership Team. Well Done Andy & Yvonne for continuing to support our youngest members.

As a Group out big event this term has been the Party in our Park music concert for the village, this was a big effort for the group but well worth it as money raised will assist in the expansion of the hut grounds, hence allowing us to provide scouting to more youngsters in the village.

So it just leaves me to say to all the young people, have a great summer, stay safe enjoy your time away from School, have adventures and the leaderships teams will look forward to welcoming you all back in September.

Paul.

Group Scout Leader.
